Registration process for PBP 2027 will begin in January 2027. ACP has announced event dates as August 22nd to 26th, 2027 and there will be slots for 8,000 cyclists. The qualification and pre-qualification requirements will be the same as the last two editions in 2019 & 2023.

Pre-qualification is not the same as qualification.

Pre-qualification: A pre-registration window opens in order of priority for riders with their one longest ride completed between 1st Nov 2025 and 31st Oct 2026. Randonneurs who complete any one ride of 1000 Km or above (homologated by ACP or LRM) will get first priority to pre-register for PBP 2027 and that window will likely open in Jan 2027. This means that whether you ride a 1000 Km or 1200 Km or a 1400Km ride, the pre-registration window will open at the same time. The second window will open a few weeks later for people whose longest ride was a 600 Km during the 2026 season. Subsequently slots will open for 400 Km, 300 Km and finally 200 Km in that order of priority with gaps of 1-2 weeks for preregistration slots. The pre-registration window gives you the advantage of blocking your preferred start time. There will be 8,000 riders flagged off in groups of 300-400 riders every 15 minutes. There will be a separate start time slot for special bikes like tandems & recumbents. Riders will also have the option to pick their cut-off time category between 80h, 84h & 90h. You will also be required to pay a pre-registration fee of EUR 50 (non-refundable) to block your spot. In 2023 edition, all 90h spots were sold out after pre-registration window opened for 300 Km longest ride.

Qualification: Registration window will open mid-May for riders to complete their regular registration process by paying the balance registration fees. You will need to complete one full SR series (200, 300, 400 & 600) between 1st Nov 2026 and 30th June 2027. This is regardless of any amount of rides you may have done in the previous season for pre-qualification. Even if you managed to pre-register and block your spot by paying the fees, you will still be required to upload your homologated rides data on the PBP registration site prior to their announced deadline (typically end of June) in order to complete your registration. Failure to complete registration will forfeit your pre-registration along with any fees already paid.

Recommendation: Ride at least a 600 Km or longer event during the 2026 season as your pre-qualification ride in order to ensure you have a good chance to register with a start time of your choice or closest option. Complete your qualification SR series during Jan/Feb 2027 months so that the qualification requirement is out of the way and you also get a lot of winter riding experience in the process. Although the event is during the European summer holidays, the temperature still dips below 10°C in the French countryside in August so we suggest you test all your winter technical clothing in Indian brevets in Dec & Jan. Riding a lot in the winter months before PBP will also help your body acclimatize to riding in cold weather. After you clear the qualification requirement, you may then purely focus on your training leading up to the event in Aug 2027. You should ideally ride at least one 1000 Km or 1200 Km brevet before PBP so that you experience what happens to you in an event spanning 3+ days. Certain challenges have to be endured to be understood how best to be tackled. Use these pre-qualification and qualification rides to sort out all your issues with bike positioning (bike fit) and test all your gear such as lights, tyres, rain gear, etc which you are likely to use at PBP. Above all these, please note that PBP has over 12,000 meters of elevation gain which translates to a LOT of short but gentle climbs throughout each of the 14 stages of the route. You must train hard for this challenge by riding a lot of climbs having 1% to 6% avg gradient and 1 Km to 3 Km in length. Pick a good climb near your home and ride loops / climb repeats till you build strong climbing skills and climbing muscles to tackle this tough ride. Only 14% of Indians finished in 2019 and only 47% of Indians finished PBP in 2023. So PBP is not an easy ride for most asians.
